Since its inception in 2022, CTCMDA has collaborated with community associations, regulatory bodies, and governments to achieve progressive milestones. Key activities include the following:
CTCMDA cohosts this annual celebration event with several community associations, bringing together international experts, practitioners, and community members to exchange knowledge, to conduct educational seminars, and to host exhibition and free consultation clinics across Canada and in multiple countries worldwide. This event is also endorsed by the provincial government of British Columbia as “TCM Practitioners and Acupuncturists Week”, to recognize the invaluable contributions of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and acupuncturists to promote health and wellness in the BC’s local communities. The scale of this event is also expanding to include different ethnic community groups and community healthcare professions. The 5th annual celebration, to be started on June 21, 2025, will introduce “TCM & Community Health Expo Market”, targeting an exhibition of one hundred booths to showcase the products and services offered by TCM including herbal medicine and acupuncture, as well as community healthcare, to interact with the local communities and the world.
CTCMDA actively engages with the medical associations, regulatory colleges, both provincial and federal ministry of health to address regulatory and policy changes that influence the development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine including herbal medicine profession and profoundly impact the quality of community healthcare within the province and across Canada. For example, in February 2024, CTCMDA submitted an open letter to the BC’s Ministry of Health highlighting concerns and providing recommendations regarding TCM and acupuncture regulations. This advocacy ensures fair, effective, and practical governance frameworks that uphold professional standards and patient safety.
CTCMDA emphasizes the importance of continuous learning by promoting various professional training programs, distance-learning modules, and clinical education initiatives. Through structured educational programs, CTCMDA helps practitioners enhance their clinical skills and knowledge, ensuring high standards of practice and contributing significantly to the academic advancement and certification standards in TCM.
CTCMDA actively supports integrating qualified TCM practitioners and acupuncturists into mainstream community medical services. By establishing and supporting community-based clinics and healthcare programs, CTCMDA helps to alleviate pressure on primary healthcare facilities, providing effective, complementary medical alternatives to a broader demographic. This community-oriented approach not only diversifies healthcare offerings but also relieves strain on conventional medical systems, thereby enhancing overall public health outcomes.
Through organizing TCM promotional events, workshops, and free consultation clinics, CTCMDA actively informs Canadians about Traditional Chinese Medicine, its treatment principles, its efficacies, and its application areas. These initiatives give diverse Canadian communities opportunities to know more about the medicine and to make educated decisions selecting appropriate treatments for their health and well-beings.
Through ongoing commitment, CTCMDA continues to strengthen its foundational goals, alliances, and responsibilities to enhance community healthcare services, contributing significantly to Canadians' overall health and well-being.
